Description
A visitor’s marvelling eyes scan the entire Gulf of Nicoya with its many islands and mangrove-lined estuaries below, the row of volcanoes at the horizon toward north and northeast from the Orosi at the Nicaraguan border past Cerro Cacao, the massif of the Rincon de la Vieja Park, the cones of Miravalles and Tenorio down the open Gulf to Jaco, misty Cerro Turrubares looming beyond in the southeast.  When the weather permits even fiery Arenal Volcano is visible glowing at night.

From innumerable natural plateaus one can further see mountains and valleys of the southern peninsula, Pacific blue and white water from Tambor past Montezuma in the south and up the coast from Malpais to Coyote in the southwest, altogether over 200 miles of panoramic vistas!

The farm has its own water from 2 perennial springs, has forest and pasture, fruit trees, 100 avocado trees and - on its south and eastern sides - borders a huge nature reserve supported by a project of the ZooAve in La Garita to introduce captive-bred and rehabilitated animals back into the wild. The subject property thus acts as a bio-corridor guaranteeing a great deal of wildlife passing through. The reserve itself is off-limits to the public.  Jaguar, panther, peccaries, macaws and many other endangered Costa Rican originals can be observed with luck and patience.

The property has year-round access, electricity at 300 m and would be perfect for an ecology-minded tourism project, for building condos or simply to use as an out-of-the-world estate. There is ample building space.

A tentative plan for a 5-larger-parcel subdivision was made but not registered yet. There is absolutely no crime nor is there any contamination of water or air. Great foreign and local neighbours at a ‘safe’ distance.

The international airport of Liberia is about 1 ½ hours away. Pacific beaches of Coyote or Carillo about 45 minutes and the Gulf for exploration of national parks and estuaries about 25 minutes.
Please note that photos never show the real beauty.

Did you know that there is no MLS in Costa Rica? So finding your dreamhome there (or any other Latin American country for that matter) is not just a matter of contacting any real estate agent in Costa Rica and getting access to the country’s available real estate - that doesn’t happen and won’t for a very long time.Instead, you need to be working with someone who has contacts with real estate agents, property management companies, and developers all over the country!  That happens to be what I can offer my clients.  With my involvement with Compass Properties, I can offer properties in new developments that we have reviewed as being a safe purchase.  Also, my growing network of English-speaking, hardworking, service-oriented real estate agents throughout the country allow me to help you find specific Costa Rica property.

And if you are looking to buy a vacation/investment property, you’ll definitely want to use a reliable property management company that can fill and take care of your property as efficiently as possible.  I can help you there too.

By the way, this goes for commercial property and developers as well.  My contacts deal with strip malls, apartment buildings, office buildings, hotels, and other commercial properties.  We can also help developers find and obtain raw land, as well as assist them with commercial lending.

So if you are looking for any real estate in Costa Rica - from $100K to several million - then myself and my network would be more than happy to assist you!

Growing up in freezing, cold winters in a small rural town just outside the bustling metropolis of Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, is the only way I can explain my fascination with all things tropical

Ever since I can remember, I dreamed of beaches, palm trees, coconuts, waves, and warmth.  My favorite foods are all exotic (Thai, Hawaiian).  My favorite smells (coconut sunscreen and neoprene from wetsuits) bring up visions of crystal clear waters on a cinnamon-colored, sandy beach.  Maybe that’s another reason why I’m fascinated by using exotic bamboo as a building material.

I started looking into it casually on the Internet a few years ago.  I even checked Amazon for some books on using bamboo to build structures, hoping I might find a “How To” book.  The idea of living in a tropical-looking house made of bamboo warms me and brings a silly smile to my face.

As it turns out, bamboo is also an extremely strong, renewable, and plentiful building material that has recently gained the attention that it deserves in mainstream architecture and development.    First of all, its growth rate is extraordinary - unsurpassed by any of the typical timber competitors.

Bamboo is also a superior building material when it comes to standing up to earthquakes.  Brick and concrete buildings collapse before bamboo buildings do.

If you want to read more about the mainstreaming of bamboo in development, check out this article on Yahoo.

So now I’m curious as to what you all think of bamboo houses?  Fill out my short questionnaire below and I’ll report the results in the upcoming weeks.

Costa Rica’s Tourism Board (ICT) has just released its 2007 year end tourism statistics.  Here are some of the highlights:

1. Crime against tourists dropped 26%

2. Tourism rose by 11.5%

3. Total of 1.9 million people (tourists) visited Costa Rica

4. $1.9 Billion in Tourism Revenue, up 300 million from last year.

5. 100 New ICT Police Officers added

6. Jaco has granted $800,000 more dollars for next year to hire more police.

These are some exciting numbers, and just confirmation of what we have been saying - that tourism is continuing to grow in Costa Rica.

Even more exciting is that crime against tourists has gone down.  Typically, tourists fall victim to petty theft, mostly because they aren’t using common sense and they fall prey to small time thieves who target tourists.  But with the addition of the new ICT police officers who work in conjunction with local police forces to keep tourists safe, these crimes have gone down.  Quick justification for these new police officers.

And it appears that in response to this resounding success, the town of Jaco has set aside funds to beef up their ICT police officers, continuing their dedication to improve this great tourist town.
